Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 3, 2026

Homeschool Factory is a homeschooling platform used by parents and their children. This policy explains, in plain English, what we collect, why, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, email annie@thehomeschoolfactory.com — a real person answers.

What we collect

  • Account info — your name and email (via our sign-in provider), and your state.
  • Your kids' profiles — the names, ages/birthdays, grades, and schoolwork you add for each child so the app can plan and teach.
  • What happens in the app — plans, completed work, journal entries, and messages with the AI tutors, so we can show progress and keep the experience safe.
  • Billing — handled by our payment processor (Stripe). We never see or store your full card number.

Children under 13 (COPPA)

We take children's privacy seriously. If any child on your account is under 13, federal law (COPPA) requires verifiable parental consent before that child uses our interactive features. We obtain that consent from you, the parent, during setup: signed in to your own account, you affirm that you are the parent or legal guardian and consent to your child's use, and we record that consent. We collect only what the app needs to teach your child, we don't show children third-party advertising, and we don't sell children's information. You can review or withdraw consent, and delete your child's data, at any time in Settings → Safety & privacy.

How we use it

To run the app: build daily plans, power the AI tutors, track progress, generate your state paperwork, and keep kids safe (our safety system screens messages for crisis signals and alerts you). We do not sell your or your children's personal information.

Who we share it with

Only the service providers that make the app work, each under their own data protections: our sign-in provider (Clerk), database host (Neon), payment processor (Stripe), AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google) that power the tutors and safety screening, and our email provider (Resend). We share the minimum each needs. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect a child's safety.

Your choices

  • Export — download your family's data anytime (Settings → Safety & privacy).
  • Delete — delete your account (a 30-day grace window applies). Deleting removes your family's data.
  • Email preferences — turn off non-essential emails in Settings → Notifications. (Crisis-safety alerts always send.)

Data security & retention

Data is stored in the United States. We keep your data while your account is active and for a limited period after, except where we're required to retain certain records (e.g. compliance/audit logs). We use reasonable safeguards to protect it.

Changes & contact

If we materially change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, notify you. Questions or requests about your data: annie@thehomeschoolfactory.com.

This policy is written to be clear and honest about our current practices. See also our Terms of Service.
